How would you define your main role on most of the projects you work on at the moment?

At the heart of every project I take on, I’m a storyteller — blending technology and human emotion into sonic form. Basically, I see myself as a bridge between two worlds: the analytical precision of AI and the emotive depth of music. In my projects, I serve as both the architect and the storyteller — designing soundscapes that are informed by data but driven by human emotion. My role encompasses everything from conceptualization and composition to mixing and mastering, ensuring that each piece resonates on both a technical and emotional level.

Please tell us a bit about your musical background. How did you get started in the music industry? What was your pathway to your current role?

Music has always been the unseen rhythm guiding my life — from childhood days surrounded by classical instruments, thanks to my grandfather’s instrument-making craft, to discovering EDM in my teens through the sounds of David Guetta and Eric Prydz. But coming from a humble background in India, music production wasn’t a viable career option early on, so I ventured into technology, where I became an AI scientist and educator.

Ironically, it was during the pandemic in 2021 — a period of global pause — that I began experimenting with AI-generated music. My early releases were fully AI-made using tools I developed myself. However, the experience also made me realise AI’s limitations — it lacked the emotional nuance only a human could bring. So, I immersed myself into traditional music production — devouring YouTube tutorials, mastering DAWs like FL Studio, and learning music theory from scratch. This led to me producing works that marry AI’s insights with human creativity.

Today, I produce music under the stage-name InteliDey and have created my own genre, Infinity Wave, blending Future Rave, Melodic Techno, and Progressive House. My single “I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)” is my personal flagbearer of this journey — a track that encapsulates my sound and philosophy.

What or who inspired you to follow this path?

The inspiration came from a desire to merge my two passions: technology and music. Beside David Guetta and Eric Prydz artists like Deadmau5 and Anyma demonstrated how electronic music could be both innovative and deeply emotive. Their work showed me that it’s possible to create music that stimulates the mind and touches the heart. This realization propelled me to explore how AI could enhance, rather than replace, human creativity in music.

Are there any highlights from your work that you are particularly proud of?

Creating the genre “Infinity Wave” stands out as a significant achievement. The release of “I Don’t Think (Infinity Wave)”; was a culmination of my efforts to blend AI analysis with human emotion. The track not only received international recognition but also sparked conversations about the role of AI in creative processes. Additionally, being featured in publications like EDM.com, MusicTech, Your EDM, The Times of India and We Rave You among many others affirmed the impact of my work on both the tech and music communities.

Instead of using AI to produce music, I used AI to analyse trends in the music industry data such as music released under genres, festival lineups, popularity of music in news media, etc. Using the trends in the music industry, AI helped me to understand possible predictions of how the music industry might evolve in near future and used that knowledge to create the Infinity Wave genre. As creative professionals we all have been stuck in the creative block, but AI could help us to overcome that block without messing with our actual creativity — that was my primary hope to showcase to other music professionals.

What’s one tip you can share with other MPG members that could help their workflow?

Consider using AI as a tool to enhance your creative process. For instance, I employ AI to analyse trends in electronic music—studying festival lineups, streaming data, and audience engagement. This information helps me identify emerging styles and informs my production choices. However, it’s crucial to remember that AI should augment, not dictate, your creativity. Use it to gather insights, but let your human intuition guide the final artistic decisions.

What’s one tip you would like an MPG member to share with you?

I’m interested in learning how fellow producers maintain emotional authenticity in their music while navigating the pressures of commercial success. Balancing personal expression with industry demands is a challenge, and insights into managing this equilibrium would be invaluable.

Do you have any words of wisdom for people wanting to get into a similar music production role to yours?

Embrace your unique background and experiences—they are your greatest assets. Whether you’re coming from a tech, art, or entirely different field, your perspective can bring something new to the music industry. Don’t be afraid to blend disciplines; innovation often lies at the intersection of diverse fields. Also, be prepared for continuous learning. The journey involves constant evolution, but it’s this growth that makes the process rewarding.
