Tickets for this coveted awards event will go on sale soon and as this year’s Awards were quickly sold out, people wanting to attend should buy early to avoid disappointment.
If you already have plans for next February 28th, cancel them now because this is the date set aside by the Music Producers Guild for its 2019 Awards ceremony.
This year’s 10th anniversary event, which saw Catherine Marks crowned as Producer of the Year and Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley honoured with the PPL-sponsored Award for Outstanding Contribution to UK Music, was a roaring success with all tickets sold weeks before the ceremony. The MPG anticipates similar demand for its 2019 Awards, which will once again be held at the prestigious Grosvenor House in London and hosted by broadcaster and breakfast show presenter Shaun Keaveny.
“The Music Producers Guild Awards recognise the enormous contribution made to the international music industry by the UK’s top producers, engineers, remixers and mastering engineers,” says Tony Platt, Managing Director of MPG Awards. “Winning an Award shows that you have the respect of your peers because MPG award winners are voted for by MPG full members – in other words people who know what happens in a recording studio and understand exactly what a producer, engineer or remixer does. This explains why our awards are so credible – and why recording professionals are so thrilled when they win one.”
With a roll call of previous award winners that includes Sir George Martin CBE, Youth, Paul Epworth, FKA Twigs, Brian Eno, Roni Size, Imogen Heap, Trevor Horn and Dave Stewart, the MPG Awards are widely regarded as a key event in the UK music industry calendar.
Catherine Marks, MPG Producer of the Year for 2018, says: “To win an MPG Producer of the Year 2018 Award, based on the judgements of fellow producers and MPG affiliates who are all so talented and creative, was pretty overwhelming. The MPG community understands what goes into making great records and this acknowledgment feels like a massive milestone in my career.”
Tony Platt adds that the respect now given to recording professionals is in no small part down to the MPG and its Awards programme.
“Producers today are much more public-facing and music lovers have a much better understanding of the role they play in creating great records. Top names such as Mark Ronson, Max Martin, Diplo and Calvin Harris are generating as much public interest as the artists they work with,” he says. “The MPG has worked tirelessly to raise the status of the UK’s highly skilled recording professionals and champion their creativity and talent, so I think we can rightly take some credit for these changes in attitude and perception.”
The opening date for MPG Awards 2019 Submissions will be announced soon and, as in previous years, there will be 13 categories that names can be put forward for. Anyone can nominate anyone, provided category criteria is fulfilled, and as submission will only remain live for a few weeks people submitting names are advised to be ready so that they don’t miss the submissions period.
