FKA twigs is known for her ‘genre-bending’ music, drawing on a variety of styles, including electronic music, R&B, trip hop, choral music, industrial, and avant-garde. Her work has been compared to the work of Tricky as well as Janet Jackson, Bowie, Kate Bush, Prince and Massive Attack. twigs is currently working on her new album and preparing for the release of The Crow remake in which she stars alongside Bill Skarsgård.
FKA twigs commented on her win “I’m really honoured to be receiving the award for outstanding contribution to UK music. It means so much to me because the MPG awards are truly industry facing and acknowledge the talented people who are still chained to the desk past midnight. The fact that for over a decade I have been able to write and produce my own music and still take part in all the glitz and glamour is truly a testament not only to my dedication to my art but also to all of the amazing collaborators I have worked with and learnt from over the past decade. This award is for all of us.”
As sponsors of the PPL Present The MPG Award For Outstanding Contribution To UK Music, industry organisation PPL is delighted that FKA twigs has been chosen as the recipient of the 2024 award.
Peter Leathem, CEO of PPL, said:
“FKA twigs is, and has always been, the definition of a trailblazer in the music industry. This award recognises a phenomenal singer, songwriter and performer who throughout her career has shown endless creativity through song and dance, to create some of the most visually and sonically captivating music from the UK in the last decade. Her commitment and focus to doing things differently and challenging the status quo, make her a worthy recipient of the MPG Award For Outstanding Contribution to UK Music. Congratulations to FKA twigs from all at PPL on this much deserved accolade.”
This announcement comes before the full 2024 MPG Award winners are revealed on 25th April at a new venue, The Troxy, London E1 0HX.
