Discarding audio in Logic X

Any Logic X gurus out there? I have a question regarding audio file management…

So there is a band with several shows on the tour recorded. They want to select songs from different shows and create a new Logic project with those bits.

What happens is that when I copy the song from the concert project to the comp project it copies the whole audio file, not just the bit we’re interested in. How do I discard all the audio that doesn’t matter so the project file doesn’t become a 1 TB beast?
