How would you define your main role on most of the projects you work on at the moment?

Mostly, I’m a writer and producer – I really dive into the development process, shaping a sound and bringing it to life. It’s such a fun and rewarding journey.

Please tell us a bit about your musical background. How did you get started in the music industry? What was your pathway to your current role?

I was lucky enough to have a small family home studio as a teenager, so I spent hours producing and composing. In my early 20s, I got involved with The Roundhouse workshops, and through those connections met Alex, my partner. From there, we formed a duo Bon Music Vision and off we went.

What or who inspired you to follow this path?

Missy. Elliott. She’s actually a prolific producer for others as well as an artist herself.

But even before that, when I was around 8, I fell in love with the soundtrack to The Secret Garden – it sparked the idea of composing for me. The same for DJ Shadow’s track ‘Stem/Long Stem’. It’s still one of my all-time favorites.

Are there any highlights from your work that you are particularly proud of?

Not gonna lie, proud of everything. We really only work with artists and projects that excite and inspire us – I would say though that I am very proud of being able to guide and help artists find their sound. There’s a lot of trust needed and it can be overwhelming, so to see their musical selves come to life and knowing that they’ve had fun along the way is very pleasing.

What’s one tip you can share with other MPG members that could help their workflow?

Get a cat for breaking the ice and easing artists into the session. Lock the cat out so that you can work. Also… check that they like cats.

Do you have any words of wisdom for people wanting to get into a similar music production role to yours?

It’s very hard, so take that on board. Patience and emotional intelligence are very handy. Mixing with like minded people is vital. Understand, celebrate and lean towards what you are good at, don’t be afraid to let others in for the things you aren’t good at. Always look for a win win, check your ego – collaboration when done right is a joy.
