When the world came to a sudden halt during the first Covid lockdown, we had to rethink everything about our lives, not least how to write, produce and record music. How could we transform an intimate, creative, collaborative process that is traditionally done face-to-face in a recording studio into one that would work across distances? Having had a prior history of tech innovation, creating one of the world’s first online recording platforms called Rocket Network in the 90’s (which was subsequently sold to Avid and used by thousands) Tim set about formulating an affordable, remote recording system that would allow creatives to work through lockdown. Tim pieced together a unique system using several affordable existing softwares which allowed producers and artists to record in real time. Producers were now able to operate a remote rig and hear the stream live, even including a talk-back function. He had managed to replicate a perfect studio set up.
