The Church Studios

The Church Studios has a long and exciting history that has been reinvigorated in recent years, since it was purchased and reconceived as a new commercial studio by producer Paul Epworth. Paul’s own work immediately began to bolster the client list, drawing artists such as Lana Del Ray, U2, Beck, Usher, Adele, and The Stone Roses, but it didn’t take long for word to spread far and wide. In the past year alone the studios have been used commercially by Madonna, Coldplay, Spike Stent, Tony Maserati, Jay-Z and Beyonce, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, and many more. It is truly a musician’s studio which houses an incredible amount of modern, vintage, rare and unique instruments and equipment of all kinds that can be made available to anyone who visits. It has a boutique, homey feel that is backed up by all the gear a producer, engineer or musician could ever want, as well as an extraordinarily dedicated staff who would move heaven and earth for their clients and their music.

Client list this year also includes; Coldplay & Kendrick Lamar. Other things to note are our on-going female identifying audio engineering & production initiative not to mention our paid internship and mentoring programme.

the church is my favourite studio in london for several reasons. firstly, it’s got soul. you can feel it when you walk in. most people don’t realise the iconic records that have been made in those walls and on those desks (ok computer, the wall, sweet dreams (are made of this)). this soul has recently been discovered by a swathe of current artists who have praised the church: adele, florence, kanye, kendrick, madonna, u2, coldplay, mumford, the list is basically endless. secondly, the equipment is inspiring. the rarest synths in the world. the best outboard. the best mics. the best speakers even. it’s got a unique and perfect gear list that gives you ideas. and finally (and most importantly), the people who run the place. the care and kindness they show every client, even someone like me who they can’t ever get rid of, is unparalleled. the warmth from the team puts everyone who comes in at ease. for me, that’s the most important thing about a studio, feeling comfortable there. and everybody does in the church. the people who make that happen deserve to win studio of the year.
