Segun Akinola: ‘Doctor Who – Series 12 (Original Television Soundtrack)’

The Doctor Who Series 12 score album takes listeners through the musical journey of the series, one which encompasses a myriad of musical influences all requiring a vast range of recording techniques to execute. From a kitchen extractor fan sampled, processed & programmed into a synth; or the acoustic guitar bowed with a violin bow; to the large-scale orchestral recordings or the solo Irish fiddle, the process of creating the score is an exercise in best-practice and expertise for the engineer, mixer and producer involved, all working in tandem not only to find the best way to highlight the individuality of the score but to also cultivate a cohesive sound throughout: the production is just as important as the writing. A great deal of care and attention is then given to take this sound and make it the most enjoyable listening experience possible as an album, making the move from orchestra to chamber ensemble or experimental electro-acoustic sounds to synths and much more, seamless.
