SAULT: ‘Untitled (Black Is)’

UNTITLED (Black Is) came as a response to the unfair treatment of Black People and those of Black Origin through systemic racism. The impact of the album was such that Gilles Peterson played the album from front to back, before its release as a worldwide exclusive on his radio show. Michael Kiwanuka, the only featured musician credited on the record received acclaim for his contribution to the track ‘Bow’, whilst Wildfires’ another track off the record, has been touted as a potential song of the year by various luminaries adding to the appreciation of the album. The continued praise for UNTITLED (Black Is) is even more remarkable considering SAULT have no major label backing, havenÕt done any interviews or released any videos for their songs. Radio 1, Apple Music 1, and KCRW are just a handful of the stations that have been playing the album. With a number of fans and writers declaring UNTITLED (Black Is) as their album of the year, 2020 has been an excellent year for SAULT.
