Emmy-nominated composer, producer & broadcaster, Hannah Peel’s acclaimed album Fir Wave was released in March 2021 on the Northern Irish artist’s own imprint. Granted rare permission to reinterpret the original music of the 1972 album KPM 1000 series: Electrosonic, Peel rebuilt & redefined the music of Delia Derbyshire & the Radiophonic Workshop. Fir Wave is a precious one-off – a moment when one pioneering woman’s work was reinvented with flair & skill by a contemporary artist who seamlessly demonstrated her own vision and independence, both as a musician and label. Peel made connections and new patterns that mirror the Earth’s ecological cycles through music. She used a process of resampling and generating her own new digital instruments with the music of Derbyshire and the Radiophonic Workshop as inspiration. Fir Wave demonstrates the ambition of Peel’s work, consistently forward-looking, adapting & re-inventing genres & hybrid musical forms as she journeys through her career.
