GrapeGuitarBox (Teenasai Balamu)

Testimonials

Teenasai Balamu aka GrapeGuitarBox (their artist name) is a non-binary trans, Indian artist who deserves an MPG Award for their work in ‘free’. It is their first fully self-produced and engineered work that was made for a project with Tinder India’s Queer Swipe Stories for an animated 1 min film about a true life queer love story. The track is an ode to the refreshing spirit of being young and dreamy, but also realistic and rooted in reality. It points to being liberated by being mindful and in the moment. The track’s production beautifully captures the mood and essence that the lyrics and instrumentation want to convey. There is conviction in Balamu’s production of this folky, acoustic song. It was also produced singlehandedly by them during the height of the pandemic in 2020 with limited resources from their home. Balamu has spoken of the lack of access they have to resources. If ‘free’ is the result of limitations, I can’t wait to see what comes out next.
