Fiona Ross 1

Well, as I am putting myself forward, I’m not entirely sure what to say. I am continually learning and developing as a producer and this is third album I have self produced. As a female producer and as a Jazz female producer, there are not many role models out there, which is a great shame – and part of why I am nominating myself, just to ensure that women are being heard. My album has received great reviews and what has been wonderful is the comments on the production of my album. I wanted to achieve something real, genuine and authentic. I experimented loads and recorded two songs live in a staircase. A risk, but one that paid off. I wanted to create a production that was true to me as an artist and also go with the flow of Jazz as a genre – freedom and experimentation. If this nomination only goes towards stats to say there are more female producers out there – and more in the Jazz industry, then I am more than happy with that.

Fiona has done so much over the year and her latest album, Fierce and Non Compliant, is fantastic. A great take on ‘classic’ jazz with a modern twist. All entirely written and composed by Fiona.
