I think this is the first year since being signed to Sony as an artist myself as part of Alt Electro duo Cash+David that my work as a producer, mixer, writer is starting to be accessible, culturally relevant, interesting musically and sonically. Partly due to the wonderful amount of creation which is happening in the world and culturally in the UK, but also due to a brilliant new manager, Zita McHugh, who’s seen potentially in my strange blend of musical interests. I come from a classical/orchestral/folk background but have had an obsession with hip hop, soul and lo-fi since I can remember first hearing J Dilla’s production on a Pharcyde album. I think this record that I made with Oscar Welsh is cutting new ground and I think musically at least is a breakthrough record for me. Since this record, collaborators, artists, managers and A&R are targeting me as a producer specifically which I see as a sign to breakthrough.
